It is also important to realize stress (trauma) can negatively affect mental health disorders which are of a genetic nature (biologically based). It is essential to maintaining the stability and improved functioning of all who have been diagnosed with such disorders. Lastly, many disorders related to severe stress/trauma can be misdiagnosed as genetically based disorders such as manic depression, schizophrenia or as personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder.

It is important to see a professional who is not only experienced with these disorders but also is an expert in trauma to properly diagnose or differentiate these disorders.
Susan Kunkel, L.C.S.W.
Unlike other counselors, I have a deep, professional understanding of the history of abuse and environmental factors that lead to mental health disorders. I have more than 30 years of experience in treating the effects of sexual, verbal, physical, and emotional abuse, 10 years of teaching at UMDNJ-Newark Medical School, and I am 100% devoted to assisting you with your issues.

Many people do not understand how mild, moderate to severe stressors or trauma contribute to everyday symptoms. Symptoms as stress, depression, anger, anxiety, sleeplessness, obsessive thoughts/ behaviors and physical conditions.
PTSD is usually considered a War related disorder instead of understanding how ordinary to extra ordinary events can effect individual, couple and/or family.

Additionally, Dr. Denise Johnson, PhD, is available for psychological testing for patients all ages.
